SmartPath's latest study, conducted by Merative, explored this possibility by examining healthcare metrics at a long-time client. The study compared how SmartPath participants and non-participants engaged with healthcare services.
Even though SmartPath participants should’ve been 38% more costly than non-participants (in terms of their risk of serious health conditions), they actually lowered their combined medical and drug costs and increased their engagement with preventive care!
Becoming “well” financially and otherwise is not a one-dimensional activity. It’s a whole person endeavor and requires education and intentionality. These findings suggest that when individuals are educated on how to make cost-effective and proactive decisions, they’ll maintain a healthier lifestyle overall and, by extension, their organization can save money on healthcare costs.
